College Service

Service, as Member or Chair, on many "Discipline Peer Evaluation Committees," 1993-present:
evaluating individual faculty in Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and Environmental Studies, in regular performance reviews of both un-tenured and tenured faculty, as well as for tenure or promotion recommendations.

Member, Science Building Planning Committee 2001-present:
selection of of and work with an architect on the programming, planning, and design of the expansion and renovation of the KSC Science Center.

Member (1992-present) and Chair/Coordinator (1995-1999 and 2001-present), Environmental Studies Program Steering Committee,
led program through KSC's Academic Program Review process, overhauled program curriculum, helped hire two faculty (co-chair of one search), organized the Environmental House living-learning program, and participated in planning for future construction of a new science facility, among other accomplishments.

Member, Faculty Development Fund Committee, 2000-2001:
reviewed proposals from faculty colleagues applying for funds from the Faculty Development pool.

Author, Geology Department Program Review Self-Study Report, 2000:
wrote the Geology Department's Self-Study Report for Academic Program Review.

Acting Coordinator, Geology Department, Spring 1999:
covered for the Geology Department coordinator during his sabbatical leave.

Non-Senate Member, Academic Standards Committe of the College Senate, 1998-1999:
investigated migrating the college to a 4-credit system; analyzed a survey of faculty and prepared report of results.

Member, Instruction & Scholarship subcommittee of the College Information Technology Committee, 1993-1999; Chair, 1994-1997:
lead author of College's initial 5-year technology plan (1996); oversaw evaluation of faculty requests for computer workstation upgrades.

Member, Search Committee for Assistant Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies, 1997-1998:
evaluated and interviewed candidates and recommended finalists to the Dean of Sciences.

Member, Search Committee for Vice President of Academic Affairs, 1994-1995:
evaluated and interviewed candidates and recommended finalists to the President.

Member, Search Committee for Assistant Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies, 1994-1995:
evaluated and interviewed candidates and recommended finalists to the Dean of Sciences.

Member, Technical Advisory Committee for the formation of the MonadNet Corporation, 1993-1995:
investigated to establishment of a local internet service provider.
